Stop SOPA!

Hello All,  over the last 24 hours I'm sure many of you have encountered odd things with some of your favorite websites, google, facebook, craigslist, youtube, aol, twitter and more.  The one thing all of these sites have in common is something called SOPA or the Stop Online Piracy Act, House Bill 3261.

The idea behind the law is to expand the ability of U.S. law enforcement and copyright holders to fight online trafficking in copyrighted material, the concept of which Adrenaline Radio is for.  However the bill also provides U.S. law enforcement the ability to basically shut down any website without any information more specific than "willfull infringement".

An analysis in the information technology magazine eWeek stated, "The language of SOPA is so broad, the rules so unconnected to the reality of Internet technology and the penalties so disconnected from the alleged crimes that this bill could effectively kill e-commerce or even normal Internet use. The bill also has grave implications for existing U.S., foreign and international laws and is sure to spend decades in court challenges."[47]

Wikipedia.org gives an extensive look at the bill in question.  I urge you to look fully into this bill as it can alter the landscape of the internet as we know it.

This is another way for the government to regulate free speech as law enforcement can take down an entire domain due to something posted on a single blog, arguing "an entirely largely innocent online community could be punished for the actions of a tiny minority"

Adrenaline Radio supports the concept of the law, however we do not support an all powerful entity with no over-site control of the internet.
